Doug Andrews
An artist, farmer and gardener, I have always revelled in the bountiful colour and compelling designs of the world around me. I use oils, watercolours, pastels to capture landscapes, animals and flowers in intricate detail. I hope that, through my paintings, you too will find peace and joy in the beauty of nature.
The beauty of the coutryside and scenes from everyday farm life have been favourite subjects of Doug's paintings for more than thirty years. Raised on a farm near Norwood, he was encouraged to paint by his mother, who is also a painter.
He pursued art at Crestwood Secondary School, in Peterborough, studying under Roberta "Bobby" Rowland-Patterson, Bill McKnight and Neil Broadfoot. He then studied drawing and painting at the Ontario College of Art in Toronto.
In 1994, he and Catherine McIntosh Jeffery held a joint exhibition at the Kawartha Artist's Gallery.
In 1998, Doug held his first solo exhibition in the newly-opened gallery in his home at Cottesloe. The Gallery at Ander-Vale is located in a gracious Victorian farmhouse surrounded by gardens, ponds an orchard and the barnyard. Visitors are welcome to explore gardens filled with old-fashioned perennials, roses and a great variety of trees and shrubs.
In 1999, his painting Ouse River Morning (shown below) received the Don Maddocks Award at the East Central Ontario Art Association's annual show.

The old centre lane on our farm is a wonderful place. Rail fences and tangled cedars create a haven for wildlife.
