Jane Osmond - Photography
Following her retirement from teaching, Jane and her husband Bill chose to settle in the rolling hills of Northumberland.
Jane became interested in photography at an early age and is largely self taught, working through a disciplined process of trial and error. She likes to carry her camera with her, having an open mind about what she might photograph. Then when an opportunity presents itself, she is ready to seize the moment. Being able to instantly recognize a good image is an integral part of her success although she admits to a certain amount of luck! Jane now photographs with a digital camera which allows her more scope to experiment and enhance her work. Some of her most memorable photos that convey the essence of the vision that captured her heart include images of Newfoundland, Australia and her treasured grandson, Matthew, as well as landscapes, people and nature observed right here in Northumberland.

Jane began exhibiting her photos at the Northumberland Art Gallery Juried Shows 2000 and 2004 and the Spirit of the Hills’Art Show at the festival 2000. She was awarded an Honourable Mention in the 2001 Juried Festival Show and was accepted into the 2002, 2003, 2004 and 2005 Juried Festival Shows. Jane has won prizes in the Roseneath Fall Fair and especially in the Norwood Fair, for the most points for a new exhibitor in 2003 and the most overall points in 2004. Given the opportunity to enter photographs in a local fair in Foster, Australia this year, she was surprised to be awarded “The Jurors’ Choice” award.
Jane Osmond's photographic work will be the subject of a solo Spirit of the Hills exhibition at the Campbellford Public Library from April 28 to June 29. An opening reception will be held May 3 at 6:30 pm. The public is invited to attend to view the work and speak with the artist directly.
