Artist Statement
By any measure, I would be considered a newcomer to the world of photography. While there’s much I need to learn about the technical aspects of it, my love and passion for photography continues to grow. I look, see and feel something in each photo I shoot. I like to think my photography speaks to the heart on some level. I’m drawn to nature, landscapes, architecture and the beauty of it all: the veins in a leaf, the vivid colours of flowers, the growth patterns of trees, the wonder of a hummingbird. I especially love it when someone sees and feels what I saw and felt when I captured an image. It’s an added bonus and validation when someone’s willing to spend their hard-earned money on one of my photos. I currently enjoy using a point and shoot camera with zoom and macro capabilities. My intention is to move to an SLR at some point in the near future.
Profile
Born in Peterborough in 1947, I left the area when I was seventeen and didn’t return until 2004, which was when I acquired my first digital camera and the passion began. I finally have the time to explore my own personal creativity and talents. I now live on the north side of Rice Lake, in the Village of Keene.
As a member of both the Spirit of the Hills and the Kawartha Artists Gallery and Studio, and after having entered a few juried art shows, I was fortunate to have won second place at the Warkworth Long Lunch Juried Show in August 2010. My work has been shown at Sasquatch in Keene and David’s Restaurant in Peterborough. Some of my work will soon be on display at the Skillet Restaurant in Norwood and, starting in mid-April, at the Kawartha Tourism Centre in Peterborough. I intend to have a ‘studio’ tour at my home sometime in the late spring.
I believe in ‘paying it forward’ and helping family, friends and community when and where I can. Life is good!
