Sheree Rasmussen - Textile Artist
Sheree was born in Toronto and graduated from the Ontario College of Art, where she was nominated for the Governor General’s Award for her woven textiles. She loves to make use of bold colour and pattern to express the beauty and complexity of the world. Artist’s Statement
I love the complex play of colour and movement and that is simply what my work is about. I have always appreciated textiles, probably because my mother sewed and dressed me in fabulous outfits. I studied dance, and my pieces are a kind of choreography. I’m drawn to folk traditions and crafts, particularly of the Balkans and Middle East, the crossroads of east and west- this too is reflected in my work, particularly the most recent pieces.
