Susan Statham

Susan Statham Self PortraitSusan Statham is both an avid student and teacher. A graduate of the Ottawa School of Art, Algonquin College, The National Portrait Academy and the University of Waterloo, she also attended part-time studies at The Ontario College of Art, as well as workshops at the Cecil-Graves Studio in Italy and the Art Students League in New York.

Although experienced in most mediums, her favorite is oils and her preferred subject matter is portraiture. Her commissions have included portraits of our first woman Lieutenant-Governor, the Hon. Pauline McGibbon and her husband, Donald McGibbon.

Susan is a member of the Society of Portrait Artists, and is the President of the Cobourg Art Club. She has had solo shows and participated in group shows in Toronto, Markham, Uxbridge, Cobourg, Grafton and Prince Edward County. She was recently selected as a portrait artist for the Canadian Agricultural Hall of Fame.

Susan taught at a Toronto Public School and a private art school before relocating to Grafton. At the request of those who saw her work, she began teaching from her studio in Grafton and now in Cobourg. She is also a graduate of the Institute of Children’s Literature and creative writing courses at Loyalist College. Her quest for instruction in classical and traditional methods is chronicled in her first mystery novel, The Painter’s Craft. Visit her web page at www.sstatham.com
